GOD SAVES

Mar 20, 2025

Sometimes you look back on life and say, “That was a moment that changed my life.”

This beautiful Monday morning, I’m having a full on blast from the past.

Almost 6 years ago on May 6, 2019 I picked Isaiah’s birth mom up from our local jail at 8:00 a.m. and brought her to Anna’s House for breakfast. We sat at this booth and together we cried and talked unabashedly for about two hours.

At that point we’d spent the last two months having to be “hush hush” as I entered the jail. We weren’t allowed to talk about adoption and these life-changing choices. We had no idea what the next months would entail – would she change her mind, what would the future hold, who would help us navigate such a unique situation?

The judge let her out early so we could be a part of the birth. We entered the unknown – home studies, weekly doctor visits, whether or not adoptive parents are allowed to stay at the hospital, whether or not we’d be able to take the baby home, etc. etc. etc.

It’s crazy in life how in the moment it’s all unknown, and we can look back and see how … somehow, it all worked out.

The baby was born.

I was the first to hold him.

We were able to stay at the hospital.

We were able to take him home.

And he’s been with us ever since … and he’s thriving in good ‘ol Isaiah fashion.

“God saves,” his name means. And I knew it far before he was ever born.

What a special booth I get to work in this morning. 🫶🏼
